World AIDS Day 2015
World AIDS Day 2015 was observed in grandeur by Kerala SACS in association with various government departments and NGOs with good public support.
The state level public meeting of WAD observance was inaugurated on 1st December 2015, by Sri. V. S. Sivakumar, the Hon’ble minister for Health & Family Welfare, at Victoria Jubilee Town Hall at Thiruvananthapuram. Cinema/Television fame Sri. Dinesh Panicker was the chief guest. Dr. R. Ramesh, Director of Health Services, Dr. Parvathy A. P., State TB Officer, Dr. K Venugopalan , District Medical Officer (Health), Dr. B. Unnikrishnan ,NHM District Manager , Smt. Sandhya Sarath, General Secretary CPK+, Soorya Abhilash, Television celebrity from TG community participated in the programme. Dr. S. Jayasankar, Project Director and Dr. A. Semeera, Additional Project Director were present. State Bank of Travancore donated an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs as educational scholarship to the HIV affected children. The draft for the amount was handed over to the Project Director by the General Manager (SBT) Sri. Devi Prasad. A laptop was donated to CLHIVs by Lions Club 318 A. The District Governor Ln. Adv. D. S. Sreekumaran M J F handed over the same to the PD Kerala SACS.
Awards were given away to the best performing service centres of Kerala SACS. Cultural programmes by the HIV infected and affected, Red Ribbon Club Members, TG community members increased the glamour of the state level function. Paintings by CLHIVs were displayed at the venue. HIV awareness Banners, Boards, Cut-Outs, Crafted materials, etc. were erected in various part of the City as well as in the premises of the Hall where the function was organized.
Red Ribbon Wearing Ceremony
A Red Ribbon Wearing Ceremony was organized at The Kerala Legislative Assembly. Dr. S .Jayasankar, the Project Director, pinned the Red Ribbon to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Smt. Anjana G, Asst Director (GIPA) pinned Red Ribbons to the hon’ble Speaker, Sri. N. Sakthan and hon’ble Minister for Health Sri. V. S. Sivakumar. The members of the Legislative Assemby wore Red Ribbons during the Assembly session on WAD. News readers of various TV channels wore red ribbons while presenting the news.
Double Decker Awareness Campaign
Kerala SACS hired a Double Decker bus from Kerala Road Transport Corporation and branded it as an IEC vehicle as part of WAD Observance, which was used for the distribution of IEC materials around Thiruvananthapuram City. At 6:00 PM the Magic Show by Indra Ajith was again performed at Sanghumugham Beach, an awareness class was conducted and IEC distribution was done through the halting Double Decker at the beach.
Candle Lighting Ceremony
On 30th November 2015, a Candle Lighting Ceremony was held at the Museum grounds in the evening. Members from TI projects, PLHIVs, staff of KSACS and a considerable number of public participated in the programme. A HIV awareness magic show by Magician Indra Ajith of Jems Entertainers was organized at the venue. We also facilitated for the screening of a short film ‘I am’, a project on Positive Living by a few youngsters, which received good appreciation.
A HIV awareness rally with Placards with awareness messages, balloons, etc. was organized from Fine Arts College to VJT Hall. Participants were members from TI projects, RRCs, Nursing Students, etc.
A bicycle rally was conducted by students of Lakshmi Bhai College of Physical Education, Karyavattom. The rally was flagged off by the Project Director of KSACS.
Road shows were conducted in connection with World AIDS Day in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Kozhikode.
Railway Station Jingles
Jingles in were released in four railway stations –Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Trissur and Kozhikode in connection with WAD 2015.
A Day Branding was done on WAD in Doordarshan by which advertisement spots released and a live-phone-in programmes was telecast. A live-phone–in programme was telecast by Doordarshan viz. Samoohyapadom on 30th November 2015, wherein Dr. S. Jayasankar. PD. KSACS , was the guest.
A total number of 156 advertisement spots were released in five private TV channels in connection with WAD.
A Day Branding was done on WAD in Akashavani by which advertisement spots and live-phone-in programmes were broadcast. A talk on HIV & AIDS was broadcast by Akashavani on 30th November 2015, wherein Dr. S. Jayasankar. PD. KSACS, was the guest. The slot of Yuvavani at 7:45 PM on WAD was dedicated for HIV awareness programme.
A total number of 640 advertisement spots were released in four FM channels in connection with WAD.
Kioskswereput-up in railway stations/bus stations and IEC materials to be distributed to the public with the help of volunteers and coordinated by 12 TI projectsof KSACS.
All the ART centres and ICTCs organized exhibitions in the concerned Govt. Hospitals in connection with WAD.
Advertisement in Cinema Theatres
Advertisement spots were released in over 200 Kerala Digital cinema theatres for one week in connection with WAD.
All 14 districts organizedfolk programs @ 3 programs per day in connection with WAD. A total number of 416 programmes were conducted.
Advertisements in Newspapers
Quarter Page advertisements were released in All Kerala Editions of 12 news papers including three English newspapers and the rest local language newspapers.
